If you give yourself an excessive load during this period, the consequences can be very disastrous — up to disability and even death.
In the case of SARS or flu, most people are lucky: their body recovers quite quickly, and only a temporary mild asthenia reminds them of the disease. But it is not a fact that this applies to covid.
Despite the fact that the pandemic has been going on for more than a year, doctors still know little about how the SARS‑CoV‑2 coronavirus affects the body. However, it is already known that its consequences can be prolonged and severe. Among them are:
❌Cough and shortness of breath. It is difficult for a person to breathe, and his body risks not receiving the necessary amount of oxygen.
❌Lung tissue damage (fibrosis).
❌Heart problems.
❌Inflammation of the walls of blood vessels (vasculitis).
❌Thrombosis, that is, an increased risk of blood clots, with all the consequences-the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
❌Muscle wasting. This effect is experienced by people who have spent several weeks in the hospital or have been bedridden. The loss of muscle tissue leads to the fact that it becomes difficult for a person to lift even a spoon
To reduce the risks, you need to give yourself time to calmly recover from a coronavirus infection and, if possible, support the body with some rehabilitation measures.
How long will it take to recover?
Everything is individual. In most cases, if the encounter with the coronavirus was easy, people recover within a few weeks of the onset of the disease.
1. Take your time
It is not known how long it will take you to recover from COVID‑19.
The same longcovid is an insidious condition. There is evidence that after periods of improvement, sometimes lasting several weeks, symptoms reappear.
If you were ill 1-2 months ago, this does not mean that in the near future you will not be covered with weakness and other health problems.
2. Get more rest
This is a standard recommendation for recovering from any viral infections. Do not overwork, do not bring work home, relax on weekends and chat with friends.
3. Get at least 8 hours of sleep
Lack of sleep destroys: because of it, memory deteriorates, concentration and efficiency decrease. There are studies that prove that people who sleep less than six hours a night die from any health problems 12% more often than those who sleep eight.
During rehabilitation after covid, you definitely do not need this risk. Get some sleep. If you find it difficult to fall asleep, give up gadgets before going to bed: they only interfere.
4. Limit loads
Both physical and mental. For example, in post-viral syndrome, sports and the desire to lead an active lifestyle can significantly worsen health.
So give up the gym and jogging! At least for a few weeks after you thought you were cured.
5. Try to be less nervous
Stress, like covid itself, often provokes the development of chronic fatigue syndrome. And in general, worries and nervousness have a bad effect on health. Often they are the cause of headaches, weakness, disorders of the cardiovascular system and thus slow down the recovery after the disease.
Try to make and carefully observe the daily routine. This will make your life more measured, predictable, and lower your stress levels.
Stay in touch with your therapist!!!
During the recovery period after covid, this is especially important. You should be able to quickly contact and consult with a specialist if new or alarming symptoms appear.
The doctor will ask you about your health, conduct an examination, and, if necessary, offer to pass some tests. And, if necessary, prescribe medications that will help to cope with poor health.
