MODESTY MASQUERADES AS FEAR
To reach the top, you need to take the first step, the most important and the most daring. This peak can be anything: attracting investment, a new position, an increase in salary, after all. To find an investor, you need to have the courage and confidently declare the success of your idea, to get a new position, you need to ambitiously nominate your candidacy, and to tell the boss that you want more money, modestly will not work. Without doing this — convincing yourself that you are not afraid, but simply modest-you will not move.
Under the guise of modesty, there may be a fear of admitting what exactly we want, admitting ourselves, a fear of jinxingand others that do not allow us to achieve great success. There may also be a fear of claiming that your product or service is the best. Because of such modesty, it is easy to drown among more arrogant and active competitors, who can be much worse, but win at the expense of their ambitions.
WHY IS MODESTY NOT HELD IN HIGH ESTEEM TODAY?
We live in an environment of high competition and a huge amount of information, so the winner is the one who knows how to express himself, to be heard and in sight. The personal brand and the company brand are coming to the fore more than ever. There are a lot of examples. Infinitely ambitious Steve Jobs or Elon Musk, one of his tweets or interviews as launching into space, and collapsing the rate of cryptocurrencies and stocks.
People stop being modest. They try to be like those ambitious braggarts who have already achieved success. This "anti-modesty" pushes them forward, as if allowing them to breathe deeply. They begin to look at the world a little differently, become more active, go to their goals and achieve them, declaring themselves to the world.
Therefore, today modesty is increasingly perceived not as a sign of good manners and good manners, but as the fact that a person has nothing to say and nothing is behind him. If it was said earlier that silence is a sign of intelligence and wealth, now the situation is different. Golda Meir said: "Don't be so modest — you're not that great yet." These words fit perfectly here.
The paradox is that to achieve success, you need to be completely immodest in your dreams, ideas and goals, but at the same time-absolutely modest from the point of view of your ego. Otherwise, the person will "jump on top", completely forgetting to work and delve into the details. In today's world, it is very easy to become a superstar thanks to PR and marketing tools, and at the same time remain a nobody in terms of the real thing. It will not be possible to exist for a long time, as a result, a person is waiting for an epic fall from a huge height, to which his own ego led him.
