Father's day
id: 10043712

Father's Day has been celebrated in the United States for many years. The first was on June 19, 1910 in Spokane, Washington. A woman named Mrs. John B. Dodd asked for a Fathers' Party, and thanks to the Mayor of Spokane and the Governor of Washington State, it became official. Later, President Calvin Coolidge supported the idea in 1924, but it was not declared an official US holiday until 1966.

Some people believe that having another official holiday is helping greeting card makers. They think that it is foolish for children to use money that dad gave them as pocket money, but a card or a gift for Father's Day.

But that was not Mrs Dodd's idea. After all, there were no Father's Day greeting cards on the first celebration. She probably just wished there was a special day when children and adults would thank their fathers who helped them for a whole year. It's easy to forget to tell someone that they are special to you and that they do a great job of being a dad. Fathers can now look forward to at least one day a year when they receive a little recognition.

Have you heard about this holiday?
