"point Nemo" - the strangest and cleanest place in the ocean.
id: 10045960

Point Nemo was computed by computer simulations in 1992 by a Croatian research engineer. He also proposed the name of this conditional point, referring to the name of Captain Nemo, the hero of the novels of Jules Verne, who decided to move away from humanity. The closest land points to Point Nemo are uninhabited Duci Atoll, Motu Nui Island and Maer Island - all of these islands are located at a distance of 2688 km from Point Nemo. The nearest inhabited place is Easter Island, northeast of Motu Nui. Point Nemo is included in the list of Earth's poles of inaccessibility as the Oceanic Pole of Inaccessibility. Many space agencies use this area as a "final landing point for spaceships", as there is minimal risk of damage to people and nature. In the vicinity of Point Nemo, at the bottom of the ocean, there are already at least a hundred outdated spacecraft and their parts.
But the most interesting fact that distinguishes this place from all others on Earth is that the orbit of the International Space Station can pass over Point Nemo, since its inclination is greater than the latitude of Point Nemo - so from time to time the nearest inhabited place to the point turns out to be about 400 km, but in space. That is, if you go to point Nemo, then the people closest to you may be in space, and not on Earth. In my opinion this is amazing!
