Is age difference really so huge obstacle?

This is very common problem that appears in communication between men and women here. To be honest, I've heard many times words like: "Honey, you're too young for me", "Dear, we're from different generations", "You could be my daughter, but definitely not beloved woman", "Too young to understand me". But let's ask ourselves frankly: why does some number in the passport stop us from meeting an interesting person? Why do we first consider the difference in age and only then think whether to respond to a person's message or not?
Let's just imagine one situation: after a long time searching you finally have met a person you are feeling comfortable with, a person which understands you even more better than yourself. You finally feel this an inexplicable but tangible connection between you two and the thought appears in your mind: "Damn, that's my soulmate!". Now, answer my question: will you really push away this person if it turns out that she's younger than you or you, maybe, will think: "It seems that all this time I was clearly looking in the wrong place".
That's good food for thought, isn't it?
To be honest, there was a time when I thought that age difference is really an obstacle, but after my friend's story I changed my opinion. The truth is she is married to a man who is 23 years older than her. But this is the happiest marriage I've ever discovered. They understand each other without words, always together, and a smile almost never leaves their faces. It sounds like something unreal, but it is. These two people convinced me that age is not important for true love. More important what you feel.
So after all I've said do you still think that age difference is really huge obstacle?
