In the center of the plot are five women with personal life dramas, with whom each of them is at war. This is a story of women's friendship, solidarity and protection of women's rights. By the way, the series got into the trend of the global industry movement in defense of women's rights "Time's Up" and "MeToo"
The series raises a very important issue, presenting the topic of codependent relationships and domestic violence through the example of the couple Celeste and Perry Wright (Nicole Kidman and Alexander Skarsgard):
- How do you get into such a relationship;
- How they exist;
- How they are confused with anything but violence;
- How are they trying to get out.
Alexander's hero does not look like a typical abuser. On the contrary, he is gallant, courteous, successful and looks great. Such men skillfully instill the feeling that you are incredibly lucky to meet him, and you should be grateful for that. Celeste gives in to manipulation, almost immediately gives birth to two sons. Her career is cut short, she devotes herself to caring for children.
From the outside, this is a wonderful relationship: a madly in love couple, two angels, a luxurious house. But within the relationship of spouses, it is easy to move from passion to violence and vice versa. In this case, even the victim herself does not always understand that there is violence: "He is just very passionate, he did not calculate the strength." Classic excuses.
This behavior cannot always be hidden from children. There are several options for the consequences: to protect the mother and also be subjected to violence, or to accept such an attitude as the norm and follow it. The choice is intuitive.
By the way, in my opinion, Celeste's psychologist did what every specialist should do when working with such pairs!
