Hello everyone. I am new here but very excited about the possibilities…I was hesitant at first about meeting someone online, but I understand that it means more opportunities for me and a chance to meet my soulmate from any corner of the world.

Today I would like to talk to you about giving up and how failure defines us.

I have a friend who has a tendency to give up easily. New job is a bit hard after the first two weeks? Better quit it without giving yourself for some time to adjust. Tried making muffins for the first time but they came out not so good? She will mentally defenestrate the concept of baking for good.

But the starkest example is what happened to her a few months ago. She became increasingly disappointed in men after the 3nd boyfriend in a row in her life turned out to be either a liar and a cheater, or an abuser. Yes, this summer she said, “It’s enough, I don’t want to suffer like this anymore, I will not even go on dates again at all.”

She is only 34, a pretty woman…Yet, for the past several months, she has completely stopped expressing any interest in dating. She doesn’t want to look for anyone, she stopped wearing nice clothes that suit her and stopped styling her hair, and if she was asked out, she refused even if she thought the man was decent. Just because she “was sure it would be yet another disappointment, and she'd had enough of those in the past few years”.

I feel sorry for her to be honest. I don’t believe that failure should stop us. Sure, we might want to be more careful next time, to take more precautions, to be less naïve. But should we let failure stop us from trying, even though our very next blind date might turn out to be the love of our lives (and life is unpredictable just like that)? Absolutely not! I think it’s just nonsensical and self-defying, since you steal the opportunity to be happy from yourself that way.
