By tradition, every member of the family should be at home this evening, and you can not be late for the festive table, since it is believed that you will wander all year. During dinner, you can not leave the table and talk loudly.
The festive table should amaze with its diversity, but do not forget that the fast is still going on, so lovers of glasses will have to wait a little.
The main dish on the table this evening is, of course, kutya. Throughout all holidays, up to Epiphany, kutya should stand in the most honorable place in the house. After dinner, the children carried lunch to their godparents, the adults were preparing for the evening church service. Only the girls, who always want to know about their fate, had no rest.
Gradually, the evening ends and a magical Christmas night comes, during which you cannot sleep, since you can "oversleep" all happiness. Nevertheless, even with a strong desire to fall asleep, it is simply impossible - church bells, groups of carolers create a solemn and festive range of sounds.
The rite of caroling is quite old — it came from pre-Christian times, when our ancestors revered the Sun as the holiday of Kolyada. Most of all there were children among the carolers, and this is understandable. Caroling and being the first to enter the owner's house on Christmas Day is allowed only to men who, according to custom, bring peace and quiet to the house.
After the end of the church service, the family gathers again for a festive lunch, which is no longer lenten. After lunch, it's time for a well-deserved rest. You can go to visit after lunch. Married children, as a rule, go to their parents. In the evening, the festivities begin with renewed vigor.
