I think everyone knows about the tradition of bathing in an ice hole on the feast of the Epiphany. For me, bathing for Baptism is primarily a test of will and courage, not a spiritual feat. Of course, many people will not dare to do this, but I believe that they will not lose any special sacred grace from this. After all, the main thing is the illuminated epiphany water, and whether you sprinkled it or completely dived into it is not so important, but for spiritual growth, it is better to go to the divine service and take communion. Many people believe that it is impossible to get sick after bathing in an ice hole for Epiphany, but in any case it is better to prepare for this in advance.
It was very cold outside, the air temperature was about minus 20 degrees. The ice hole was illuminated and a team of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and ambulance was on duty there. There were a lot of people.
It is very scary to dive into the water in such a cold, but a huge queue and a crowd of people do not give extra time for doubt. Like it or not, and if you already got to the ice hole, there is absolutely no time for reflection and doubt, you go and dive.
The sensations after diving are simply stunning. Joy for what happened, for being able to overcome my fear. The body is light, you just don't feel the frost at this moment.
When I got out of the water, the first thing they did was rub me well and wrapped me in clothes and gave me hot tea. The main thing is not to forget to take a hot drink, a towel, warm clothes and comfortable shoes that you will put on immediately after diving. I have a lot of positive emotions left after diving into the ice hole.
