For seven weeks before Easter, the Orthodox observe a strict Great Lent - this is a time of repentance and spiritual preparation for the holiday.
On the night of the Bright Sunday of Christ, an Easter service is held in churches, glorifying the Resurrection of Christ, the reconciliation of God and man, the victory of good over evil and life over death. Believers take Easter baskets to church to consecrate the main dishes - paska, krashanka and pysanky, dairy products, meat, salt.
After the church service, families sit down for an Easter meal, which is usually started with an Easter cake and colored eggs.
On the day of the holiday, they greet each other with the words: "Christ is risen!" - "Truly risen!"
