It just so happened that our ancestors were very fond of all sorts of customs, and Easter was no exception. Of course, some elements of the celebration remained only in history, and some we follow to this day. For example, at Easter, when they meet, everyone says to each other “Christ is Risen”, conveying genuine delight. the answer is not long in coming and is pronounced “Truly Risen”, as if confirming that a real miracle has happened.
Easter holidays last for a whole week. A few days are especially distinguished, for example, Thursday - clean Thursday, this is the day of purification from all troubles and misfortunes and death. Earlier on this day, it was customary to clean the house, yard, and even now many people continue this centuries-old tradition.
On Good Friday, they are already actively preparing for the celebration of Easter, so on Friday they bake the main “dish” - Easter. In no case should Easter cakes be eaten before it is consecrated, as this is a great sin. On this day, it is also customary to completely refuse food. According to church canons, it is on this day that we can receive forgiveness from all sins. However, this rule applies only to those who observed fasting.
Saturday is the time to paint the eggs. Why is the egg the symbol of Easter? Everything is very simple - life is born in it. According to church tradition, the coloring of eggs is associated with Mary Magdalene, who appeared to the emperor Tiberius and presented him with a red egg as a gift, while she told him: "Christ is Risen." The egg symbolized the birth of new life, and the red color, respectively, the blood of Jesus. Now eggs are dyed not only red, literally all the colors of the rainbow are used. In addition, an ornament is applied to them, such eggs are called Easter eggs.
On the day of the feast of Christ, everyone goes to church, where they congratulate each other. On Easter, you can and should greet and congratulate everyone without exception, even strangers.
