Dzharylgach is the largest in area and the second longest (after the Tendrovskaya Spit) island of Ukraine and the Black Sea. It is washed by Karkinit Bay and Dzharylgach Bay. The area is 62 km²😱. Belongs to the Skadovsky district of the Kherson region (Ukraine). Despite the size of the island, it has no significant economic or strategic importance and is uninhabited. In the 1920s, the island was part of the system of newly formed reserves😍. Today, the Dzharylgach National Natural Park, established in 2009, is located on the island.
The main part of the island (not narrow).
In the north of the island there are passable (1) swamps covered with meadow vegetation, with many salt lakes (which do not dry up). Throughout the island there are many spits. The largest braids: Levkina, Durilova, Small, Deep and Blue. Yars, beams are absent🔥. The swamps to the south are replaced by (2) steppe grassy vegetation located in the center of the island. In the south of the island along the coast there is (3) a sandy ridge (height from 0 to 1.3 m; a point 1.3 m high serves as a triangulation point), which extends to the west in the form of a process - a narrow and elongated part of the island. From the center to the east - (4) growth / plantings of sucker (tree height 3-4 m, width 0.07 m, distance between trees 3 m), which passes into (5) Kutkova tract - plantations of shrubs (to the north) and reed vegetation (in the east near the lakes)🤩. There are 4 artesian sources of drinking water available for tourists on the island (a monk's house, a deep spit, a forestry, a new lighthouse), which belong to the Black Sea artesian basin🤔. Lighthouses are located in the extreme east and west (at the narrowing of the island). Near the eastern lighthouse there is a tower-type structure (the old lighthouse)🤗. There are 4 triangulation points on the island: two on the narrow part (described below) and two on the non-narrow part (1.3 m, the highest point of the sandy ridge, and 0.3 m, near the eastern lighthouse and tower)😧.
The western narrow and elongated part of the island is 19 km long👍. The average height is 0 m. The maximum marks (from west to east): 1.5, 1.2, 1.6 (the last two serve as triangulation points). This section of the island is a sandy ridge (max. height 1.6 m), with pockets of reed vegetation on the northern shore😉. In the central part there is a small deciduous array. In the extreme west is a mound😇.
Meadow, marsh and solonchak vegetation is common in the north of the island, and steppe and meadow vegetation in the center. In the central and eastern parts of the island, artificial forest plantations have been created from the narrow-leaved sucker and four-stamen tamarix☺️. On the shores of the Black Sea, the vegetation of dunes and beaches is formed. The most common types of plants: wormwood, fescue, spurge, reed, sedge😆. Of the rare species, the golden beard, feather grass of the Dnieper, swamp sword grass, kendyr Rusanova, and several species of orchids were noted🙃. The island is a part of the biotope of firth-marine solonchaks. Birds living on the island: Arctic skua, herring gull, black-headed gull, sea dove, greave😌. Dzharylgach is a place of mass ringing of birds and part of wetlands of international importance, as well as a wintering place for gulls, swans, geese and ducks. On the semi-desert saline plains near the sea coasts of the island, there lives a rare species of the Lepidoptera order Iron Satyr (Hipparchia statilinus), listed in the Red Book of Ukraine🙏.
I was here and I can say that this place is worth a visit if you are going to Skadovsk.
