Basalt lake in Rivne region
id: 10045949
"The village of Basaltove in the Kostopolsky district of the Rivne region is famous for its rich deposits of basalt and its active mining😇. It is here that one of the most picturesque lakes in the Rivne region is located. of which are still active😍. Only the fifth mine has worked its way out, which was filled with water, and it is here that the basalt walls, combined with the calm surface of the water, have a particularly picturesque appearance🤗. Among the flooded quarry, a small island has formed here, which is called the "Island of Love" .
The depth of the flooded quarry is about 9 m (according to other sources - up to 15 m). It is fed by an underground source. The water is crystal clear and transparent with an emerald hue, like on tropical islands (due to the high concentration of minerals)🤩. At the bottom of the lake there are also majestic pillars of basalt (and also an excavator bucket), so it is not surprising that this place has become popular among divers.
Locals say that the quarry was flooded back in 1903, when the mine had exhausted its resource😊. Dynamite was placed at its bottom and blown up, thus freeing the internal waters and flooding the lake😉.
The descent to the water is quite rapid and not everyone can easily overcome it, especially if you do it several times a day. As for the places for swimming, there are two slopes to the water on the lake, both are quite steep, but there is a place near the water itself so that you can sunbathe in the sun to your heart's content☺️.
Across the road from the lake is a recently working quarry, which is partially flooded. It was in this mine that the final scene of the Ukrainian film "The Guide" was filmed. The spectacle is truly extraordinary🙃. Many adventurers and extreme sports enthusiasts often climb into the mine, taking selfies with a flooded excavator or just in front of basalt pillars🤔.
