three stages of stress
id: 10050497

1. The stage of anxiety. Stress has happened and our body sends a signal to the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus releases glucocorticoids, which trigger the release of adrenaline and cortisol. These hormones give us the strength to react to stress somehow - to run, fight, save ourselves and others.

2. The stage of resistance. After some time, our body begins to resist the physiological changes that occurred at the stage of anxiety. The pulse begins to return to normal, the cortisol level drops, the pressure decreases. At this stage, the body spends a huge amount of its resources, but the level of resistance of the body at this stage is the highest.

If the stress is over, then our body gradually returns to normal. If the stress continues, the body remains alert, so that, in case of anything, it can react in time. That is, he continues to spend resources and work at the limit of his capabilities.

3. The stage of exhaustion. At this stage, stress persists for a long time, and the body can no longer resist its harmful effects. Nervous exhaustion and health problems begin. Diseases such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, disorders of the reproductive system and others develop.

Selye's theory was further developed by other scientists, including Goldstone, who introduced such a concept as an adaptive reserve. He believed that each of us has a reserve of adaptive energy, which decreases with age. We can accumulate some capital of this energy and use it in difficult moments. But if we spend more than we have time to accumulate, our body is depleted and eventually dies.

Therefore, during prolonged stress, our task is to find resources to maintain our psyche. Any of the available ones. Even if all you can do now is, sitting in a bomb shelter, hug your child and dream about how you will plant marigolds under your window. Cling to all the good things you have left. Find the straws that will keep you afloat. It is vital for all of us, just to survive.

Ahah, so when I saw this blog, I think I found a small way to maintain my psyche in such a difficult time for us))) And if my posts still prove useful to someone, then I will be happy.

Do you often experience stress? Do you know how to control it?
