The main purpose of the holiday is the preservation of Ukrainian national values and their popularization among young people and the general population. The holiday invites every Ukrainian to commit a simple act — to put on an embroidered shirt and go to work or study in it, emphasizing their involvement in the Ukrainian cultural tradition.

On this day, concerts, embroidery marches, contests, parties, fairs are held on the initiative of students, schoolchildren, public and cultural figures.

Traditionally, on the Day of National Clothes, interesting contests are organized on the web, for example, "The Best Vishivanka" or "The best photo in embroidery". Photos in embroidered shirts are posted online not only by residents of Ukraine, but also by Ukrainians abroad, and many foreigners also joined the celebration.
