Why is it important? “The pronunciation of the name becomes a symbol of the fact that a man singles her out,” says family therapist Marina Myaus. This is especially important at the beginning of a relationship. If in English-speaking countries such an address is considered a cultural norm, then for us a direct translation of these words sounds false and insincere.

When the relationship develops, the couple spontaneously develops their affectionate appeals - a kind of code of lovers, designed to emphasize the connection. In this case, the unexpected rejection of the adopted nickname and the desire to call the partner by name often has the opposite effect. This is a demonstration of discontent and a desire to symbolically mark the distance.
