This “natural monster” is located 1 km downstream from the also beautiful Selfoss waterfall and 2 km upstream from the Hafragilfoss waterfall. The approximate width of Dettifoss is 100 meters, the height is about 44 m. (This is only 9 m lower than Niagara).
The waterfall is so magnificent that it has been shown in movies more than once as a prehistoric creation of nature. The most recent filming took place here for the science fiction film Prometheus.
