The test subjects were told that they would undergo some very simple eye tests. After that, they were shown pictures and each was asked simple questions with very obvious answers. The main trick was that all but one of the subjects were dummy, and their main task was to give the same answer, “wrong”, to a specific question at the signal of the psychologist.
For example, in the picture there were three sticks, one of which was clearly the largest. When the subject gave the correct answer to the question “what is the longest stick”, everyone else spoke to the middle stick. The main subject almost always questioned his opinion and joined the majority.
The conclusion is that no matter how individual we are, public opinion has a direct influence on our opinion, on someone more, on someone less - but, undoubtedly, it has.
