How to deal with resentment?
Admit your hurt
Sometimes you may not even be aware that resentment exists. If you feel hurt and can't figure out why, consider taking the time to delve deeper into the root cause. If resentment is present, the next step is to find out the issues causing it and work on them one by one.
Focus on the good
While resentment may dominate your relationship right now, it's helpful to be mindful of the reasons you're with your partner. Thinking about his/her good qualities can help put your feelings into perspective, reducing the power of resentment over you.
Explore your role in the offense
Sometimes resentment stems from how you perceive the situation. For example, you may feel that you are being mistreated - but why? Do you have unresolved emotional triggers that play a role?
On the other hand, if your partner has a crush on you, is there anything you do that might affect his feelings?
Learn the skills to compromise
Sometimes, in order for a relationship to become a little more balanced, a compromise is all it takes.
Despite your best efforts, sometimes it can be difficult to overcome feelings of resentment. If this is happening to you and you want to stay with your partner, it may be worth considering the option of co-therapy.
