History of the Swallow's Nest Castle (Yalta)
The Swallow's Nest Castle, although it looks like a real abode of some medieval knight or a beautiful lady, can be called a castle very conditionally. After all, from the very first days of its appearance, this unusual building served as a summer seaside dacha, which became fashionable among the nobility and wealthy merchants of the Russian Empire in the second half of the 19th century.
The Swallow's Nest dates back to the late 1870s, when the construction of a wooden building began on the top of the Aurora cliff, which is part of Cape Ai-Todor. The owner of this building was a retired Russian general, whose name history has not preserved. The secluded location of the general's dacha, the romantic views of the boundless sea from its windows, and the fact that the general himself called his property "the castle of love" caused people to gossip that the Swallow's Nest is a meeting place for the general and some secret lady.
