🎁Knives and other sharp objects🎁
This superstition comes from Asia, where it is believed that giving a knife or even scissors as a gift can lead to the end of a relationship. For example, one popular Japanese knife manufacturer puts a 5 yen coin in every knife they sell to prevent such negative effects.
🎁Empty wallets🎁
A well-known superstition says that if you give a purse or wallet as a gift, you should put some money in it to ensure good luck to the recipient. Some vendors even put a dollar bill in all the purses and wallets they sell.
🎁Shoes🎁
This superstition originated from a mixture of ancient African religion, Native American traditions and European folklore. It is believed that shoes as a gift are an invitation to a person to leave their circle of friends, from their life.
🎁Umbrella🎁
It's common sense that if it's raining, it's appropriate and polite to offer a friend an umbrella. But if you donate it, a negative context appears. Especially in Asian countries. The word for "umbrella" in Mandarin and Cantonese sounds similar to the word for "separate". Thus, giving an umbrella to a friend, a person allegedly says that he wants to break off relations with him.
