Every time when I travel around Ukraine, I am convinced of its uniqueness and originality. Even the geographical center of Europe is here! And this is not a joke. It is actually located in the highest mountainous district of Ukraine - Rakhiv district, Zakarpattia region, near the village of Dilove.
Isn't this a unique feature that could successfully distinguish our region on the European continent among many others?
Given that the European system of values is dominant in the world now, and this is the geographical center of Europe, so it is also the center of the Earth - the navel of the world!
You will not be able to see something extraordinary or original in this place. A simple, particularly unremarkable white stone pillar with blue edges, next to it - a standard Soviet-style plate. That's all that marks this seemingly extraordinary place. On the table at the base of the pillar, there is a long inscription in Latin (pictured). The text reads as follows: "Permanent, precise, eternal place. Very accurately, with a special device made in Austria-Hungary, on the scale of meridians and parallels, the center of Europe is established. The year is 1887". And in front of the famous pillar, there is a barely noticeable metal "button". Actually it is the point where the imaginary lines between the land of Franz Joseph and the Bosporus, Lisbon and the Urals, the Caucasus and the North Sea intersect. They say that whoever makes a wish and touches the heart of Europe (that is, the "button"), the whole Europe will help in the implementation of the plan. And who does not believe - let him check. Moreover, it is not difficult to get to this place.
The geographical center of Europe is a hypothetical point. The location of the center depends on the definition of the borders of Europe and is mainly determined by the chosen method of calculation, as well as whether remote islands are included in the list of extreme points of Europe or not.
