What does it mean to develop a close relationship with your body? This means that you have decided to reject self-criticism in favor of yourself. We live in a society that too often focuses on how we measure up, how we measure up to an elusive or impossible physical ideal, and what we can do to achieve bodily change. This type of body idealization and comparison is the enemy of intimacy. Intimacy means intimate familiarity... appreciation and understanding based on deep acceptance and affection.
