1. Bicycle helmets
It is recommended that you replace your bicycle helmet after a fall or whenever it shows cracks or other signs of damage. But even an unbeaten and unscratched helmet is not eternal! Check with the manufacturer when the helmet should be replaced (every 10, 5 or 3 years, for example).
The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends replacing bicycle helmets every 5-10 years.
2. Gasoline
Surprisingly, gasoline is also a commodity with an expiration date. So, according to the current standard, the warranty period for the storage of gasoline (no matter what octane number) is 1 year from the date of manufacture. There is no division by octane numbers and climatic zones now, but it was in the USSR.
According to other sources, gasoline poured into the tank should be used within 3-6 months from the date of purchase. If it has been stored in a hot place, or if the lid has not been tightly closed, it may lose its properties even earlier.
3. Medicine chest
The expiration date will directly depend on the composition of the first aid kit. So, a car first-aid kit assembled according to the new rules, that is, without medicines in the kit, will have a shelf life of 4.5 years. Plasters and tourniquets are allowed to be used for a maximum of 5-6 years. But drugs usually have a shelf life of 1 to 5 years. These expiration dates are on the packaging, as are the expiration dates for first aid items on the packaging.
Bandages may no longer be sterile in the package after 3-5 years. Antiseptic wipes should be used within a year from the date of manufacture. Therefore, you should regularly check the expiration date in the medicine cabinet and replace expired medicines with new ones.
4. Child car seats
Like bicycle helmets, child car seats should be replaced after they have been involved in an accident or when they expire, whichever comes first. You can expect a car seat to last between 6 and 10 years.
5. Sunscreen
Throwing away your old sunscreen every year is generally fine, but it's probably not necessary. If a sunscreen does not have an expiration date, it is considered good for 3 years after purchase. True, this is usually considered the expiration date before opening the package. If the package is opened, then some experts put the shelf life within 6 months.
6. Fire extinguishers
Fire extinguishers can vary greatly in expiration date. So, for example, the shelf life of a powder fire extinguisher is 10 years directly on the cylinder and 5 years on a charge. The term of use of a gas fire extinguisher can be up to 15 years, however, it is necessary to pass an annual test for the possibility of leakage of the cylinder filler. The recommended recharging interval is once every 5 years. The service life of an aerosol fire extinguisher does not exceed 10 years. Check the service life of the product with the manufacturer or in the instructions for it!
