Houses for bats work!!!!!
id: 10043632

In total, 34 simple houses were installed, similar to birdhouses, but with a slit-like entrance at the bottom. Experts write that mainly male bats, who live mostly alone, spend their days in these houses.

I also installed three experimental “dormitories” on my site, in which pregnant females should bear offspring. These are houses with several communicating compartments - the mice can move closer to the sun or farther, depending on the temperature. In one of the three houses this summer, a colony of about two dozen bats was discovered. You can draw conclusions.

The inhabited house was installed in the middle of an open meadow, on a detached pillar, at a height of about 4 meters from the ground, facing south. There was nothing underneath. The houses that were not occupied were 1 meter from the roof of the house and 3 meters from the ground on a cell tower, but several large trees of a larger size were growing a few meters to the south.

After the discovery of the colony, we removed the uninhabited houses and installed them in new places - at a distance of 40-50 meters from each other, on 5-meter wooden poles dug into the ground half a meter. It is useless to wait for settlement this season, we will wait for it in the spring. If tenants appear in new houses, we will create a network of poles with houses throughout the site and in public places of the settlement.

Theory. Bats are useful in that they destroy insect pests. These are practically the only natural enemies of mosquitoes. These are mosquito killers. One bat, according to experts, can eat up to 6,000 mosquitoes per night. These are extremely useful animals in the household, but they have nowhere to live - we practically do not have old hollow trees, and they are not loved in houses and driven away.

Bats are tied to their place of birth, so it is very likely that after wintering, these females with their cubs will return to our settlement, most likely to our site. We are preparing.
So, I already have a whole brood of mosquito fighters, of which I have a lot on my site !!!
Do you make houses for bats?
