The White Gazebo was built in 1909 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Poltava on the remains of the earthen ramparts of the former Podil Bastion of the Poltava Fortress.
During the German-Soviet War, the Nazis dismantled the Altanka, setting up an anti-aircraft artillery post in its place.
Today, among the majority of Poltava residents, the building is remembered under its former historical name "White Gazebo". This is one of the most famous symbols of Poltava, located not far from the city's newest business card - the monument to dumplings. The townspeople have a long-standing tradition of making a stop at both monuments for weddings, holidays, or simply during walks. It is on the 2nd place in the list of "Seven Wonders of Poltava", a rating of tourist objects formed by online voting, letters and questionnaires of visitors to Poltava museums.
