According to the traditional version, in 1386, Prince Fyodor Ostrozhsky began the construction of a fortress and its fortifications over the Korchik River. According to another version, which is defended by some modern historians, the first builder of the castle was Dmitry Olgerdovich. Subsequently, Korets was considered the ancestral patrimony of his descendants - the princes of Koretsky.
From three sides the castle was surrounded by a deep moat, which reliably protected the fortress from attack. From the west, it was reliably covered by the river. The Ostrozhsky castle could only be reached through a bridge that connected it with the outside world. And in the XVI century. The new owner of the castle, Prince Bogush Koretsky, built new fortifications in the fortress[3].
During the XVII-XVIII centuries, the Korets castle was rebuilt like a palace. The last time, in 1780, it was rebuilt by Prince Yu. K. Czartoryski. After the November Uprising, his empty residence burned down (1832) and has not been restored since then. True, in the 1920s, the owner of the ruins of the Korets fortress, Bninsky, tried to carry out repairs, but after a while the work was stopped.
