According to legend, Kyiv was founded by three brothers: Kyi, Shchek, Khoriv and their sister Lybid and named after Kyi, the elder brother😍

Also, the legend says that the appearance of a big city on the hilly banks of the Dnieper River was predicted by St. Andrew the First-Called😎

The exact date of the founding of the city has not been established. The first Slavic settlement, according to some assumptions, existed on the territory of the modern city as early as the 6th century. In 882, Kyiv became the capital of Rus' and reached its peak in the 10th-12th centuries. As a result of the Mongol invasion of Rus', it was destroyed and fell into decay. In subsequent centuries, Kyiv was the center of administrative units within the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Commonwealth and the Russian kingdom, which was transformed into the Russian Empire.
