Refusal of thoughtless consumerism. Most of the things that large corporations and retail chains are trying to sell us are not needed by the average person. The process of consuming trendy clothes, cool devices and status gadgets is very similar to the process of consuming drugs - at first our egoistic mind feels euphoric from owning the "7th iPhone", but the process of pleasure fades and a new thing is needed to feel the "high".
"We buy things we don't need with money we don't have to impress people we don't like."
(Chuck Palahniuk. "Fight Club")
Stop thinking like everyone else. I know only one reason why people obey "public opinion", thus giving up their true desires. This is fear. Fear of being different. Fear of losing someone else's favor. Fear of taking responsibility for your life. Ask yourself: Why should I give up my freedom and let others decide for me what I "should" do? To be happy is, among other things, the opportunity to choose how to live and what to do.Enjoy simple pleasures. Each person has his own things that give him real pleasure - someone likes to soak in the bathroom, someone works on the ground, someone cooks gourmet dishes, and someone reads. It is useful to find such "simple joys" in oneself. And even if you can’t devote enough time to them yet, practice them, albeit not for long, but regularly. Believe me, it will have a calming effect on your life.
Rethink your commitments. Life is full of various interesting opportunities related to increasing income, learning new things, expanding the network of contacts, new projects. Some of us are so eager to fill the entire calendar with various tasks and obligations. Listen! Busting is the most reliable way to expel peace and harmony from your life. Endless throwing from one thing to another does not leave you quite the time to somehow look at your life and try to comprehend it more deeply. Therefore, prioritize and give up those tasks and obligations that are not so important for your life.
Create more free time. Once you have balanced your obligations, look for opportunities to increase your free time. Properly set priorities will allow you to optimize your daily wasted (and often mediocre) time - some processes can be optimized, some can be reduced, and some things (for example, browsing social networks) can be completely removed from your schedule. The resulting time can be spent on meditation, communication with people important to you, listening to relaxing music, and so on. You decide.
Focus on the Here-And-Now moment. Perhaps the easiest and most powerful way to find a sense of happiness in life is to learn to live in the Now. The moment when you do not think about the future and do not remember the past - your limited selfish mind loses power over your true Self and you get the opportunity to fully enjoy the unforgettable feeling of the fullness of life. If you have found your life's work and are self-fulfilling, then the so-called. “flow state”, when you consciously and with pleasure begin to do the most ordinary things and enjoy the very process of activity.
Give up total control. “Any plan lives until the start of the battle” (Napoleon). Regardless of the degree and depth of planning, we can never predict with 100% certainty what the future will bring us. Therefore, it is useless to try to control the outcome of events (especially if we have little influence on anything), but it is better to accept reality as it is. Giving up trying to control what is not in your control will bring you not only more freedom, but also more happiness. By planning less, you will be more open to unforeseen opportunities that come your way. This does not mean that you should not have goals and plans, but it does mean that you will feel better when you are not "bureaucratized".
And remember that happiness is a process, not a destination.
There is no way for a person to escape the complexities of our life. However, by deciding to simplify your life and spend more time searching for true happiness, you will embark on a Path that will inevitably lead to subtle, but profound changes in your life at first.
Our life is constantly changing and evolving, and you are evolving with it, so in your physical life you will not reach the point where there will be continuous “infinite happiness”. But every moment when you walk the Path of self-realization and liberation of your Self from the power of a limited selfish mind will bring more peace and happiness into your life.
