Peace of mind and balance are inherent in every Bulgarian, here even in big cities you will not find fuss and rude attitude. The spirit of tranquility reigns everywhere in Bulgaria, which helps to effectively combine work, leisure and family life. Being an extremely hardworking people, Bulgarians will certainly start their day with a cup of coffee and never miss a lunch break, which here often lasts more than one hour.
The feast for the Bulgarians is a national tradition. The table must be bursting with all sorts of mouth-watering dishes - from the famous Shopska salad and cheeses to traditional sarmi cabbage rolls and a variety of meat dishes.
Bulgarians love and cherish their ancient traditions and rich but complicated history. Holidays are celebrated here on a special scale and in compliance with all the customs that have come to us from ancient times. And in every even a small town you will find monuments that will tell you about the events of the past that are associated with this place. The mentality of the people is largely reflected in its traditions and culture. Loyalty to their past and a kind of conservatism allowed the Bulgarians to preserve the ancient customs that came to us from the depths of millennia. The ancient rite of "nesting" - the art of walking on hot coals - still remains one of the most striking features of the national cultural heritage of the Bulgarians. As the ancients believed, this rite is designed to protect against evil forces and predict the future. Today, walking on coals is a beautiful and unusual tradition, which is accompanied by playing the national musical instruments - drums and bagpipes.
Interestingly, the meaning of some gestures among the Bulgarians differs from the traditions of other countries. So, a nod of the head means disagreement and disapproval, and rocking from side to side, on the contrary, means “yes”. Another interesting fact is that in Bulgaria it is customary to drink red wine in the months in which the letter “r” is present, and white wine in all the rest, so in the summer you will never find red wine on the table of the locals.
