How does negativity usually manifest itself?
It is any thought that portrays you or your world in negative terms. Some examples look like this:
Anxiety: "My left arm is tingling. It must be a stroke."
Complaining: "I'm so tired." "I can't stand that woman's voice."
Regret: "If I got into a better university, I wouldn't be stuck in this pointless job."
The problem with negative thinking is that it is like a snowball. One or two negative thoughts can quickly turn into a mindset where you think you can never get what you want. Therefore, most people live in constant quiet despair.
Why are negative thoughts so powerful?
From the first lesson in school, we are taught a deeply pessimistic worldview: life is an endless struggle for survival against constant and unpredictable threats to your existence, and terrible things can happen randomly at any moment. After all, what is the reward for patience in this struggle? Death.
With this mindset programmed into our minds, it's no surprise that negative thoughts have such power. We rely on them as a talisman, as if we were thinking ahead of time about all the possible negative scenarios that could protect us - or at least prepare us - for the bad that could happen.
Logic can't solve this problem. Your negative thoughts cannot prevent the occurrence of bad events any more than they can affect. Negative thinking does not affect what happens in the outside world; it just makes your life miserable. But deep down we hold the superstition that with our negative thoughts we can prevent bad things from happening. This is what gives negativity much of its persistence.
Is there an antidote?
The solution to the problem is to create a new experience of reality by refocusing on all the amazing things that are happening right now. Every day there are a thousand ways, big and small, that show that the universe is supporting you and giving you everything you need today.
Hundreds of processes take place in your body that you don’t even need to think about: your heart beats, you breathe, you digest food ... At the same time, you do nothing and don’t even understand how this happens. Look beyond your body and the gifts will multiply - there is air to breathe, food to eat, water to drink. There is love and warmth that you receive from friends and family. There is an amazing amount of beauty in the world: the night sky, sparkling stars, the sound of rain, the splashing of water in the river, the smell of flowers, the singing of birds ... If you turn your attention to these things, you will begin to realize that we live in a generous universe that constantly gives us . You will begin to feel supported, loved and cared for - and then you can let go of your negative thoughts.
How can you stay positive and not fall into a restless state?
One of the best tools is the gratitude flow. It can be practiced in the morning and evening. Start by making a silent statement about the specific things in your life that you are grateful for, especially the things you usually take for granted. (You can include on this list what you don’t have and what you are grateful for.) Take your time. Feel gratitude for every item you think of. Every time you think through the list, try to add at least one item to it.
After about thirty seconds, stop thinking and focus on the physical feeling of gratitude. You will feel it coming straight from your heart. This energy that you give out is a grateful flow. When this energy is released from your heart, you will literally breathe easier.
How does developing the practice of gratitude help in life?
The most obvious benefit is that you become less jarring, less prone to overload, and more able to maintain a positive vision even during difficult times. The explanation is simple: if you know that something bigger than you is supporting you, you will be much less likely to show negative reactions, even in very difficult and difficult situations.
In the long run, the benefits are even more significant. When you feel like the universe is on your side, you're more likely to expand your life, try new things, and keep going despite setbacks. You are more likely to realize your potential.
The most mysterious benefit is that you begin to look at the world with new eyes. Think about it for a moment: what would it be like to experience everything that is given to you constantly throughout the day? How would you feel? Answer: You will feel awe and gratitude for what the universe bestows on you.
Remember what your childhood reactions were to something new, interesting. Even a simple cockchafer could delight you, simply because you felt the world without the filter of adult thinking. In other words, as adults, we learned to analyze - to think about what we see, and not experience it directly. Having "suppressed" the child in ourselves, we have lost respect for the life-giving beauty of the world. And this is the greatest gratitude: you restore the ability to be delighted with the life that surrounds you.
