The theory of generations was proposed in 1991 by historical writers William Strauss and Neil Howe. They studied the history of the United States from the time of Columbus to the present day on the basis of biographies of different generations and found repeating cycles. The cycle consists of four periods of 20-22 years: crisis, recovery, awakening and recession. According to American scientists, the full cycle repeats every 80 years.
The theory of generations has many followers and critics. Features between different generations were studied in different countries and confirmed the presence of common features among representatives of the same generations around the world (regardless of the cultural characteristics of the country).
And now I will tell you a little about my childhood in general terms.I was born in the Ukrainian SSR in the first half of the 70s.My childhood was just magical! We had pioneer camps, it's like the Boy Scouts in the USA, we had discos. We were so energetic that we almost never stayed at home, even on winter, frosty days. There were cassette recorders and battery-powered players. We did not live richly, so we agreed in advance to buy different cassettes in order to exchange them in the future.Every morning, before school, we had cartoons, we were happy to wake up and watch them while we were getting ready for school. And when cartoons or children's movies were on TV during the day, it was like we were blown off the streets, everyone was sitting at home in front of TV screens.Later there were game consoles, chips with the characters of TV series and movies, posters on the wall. You made shorts out of old pants, tank tops out of old shirts.Despite the lack of mobile phones and the Internet, we always knew where our friends were.We climbed abandoned construction sites, walked in the woods, swam on the river. We went to libraries for books to learn something new.
Looking at the modern generation, I suddenly felt sad.I get the impression that apart from the Internet and phones, they no longer have any interests. It upsets me a bit. After all, I do not know if this is good or bad. After all, every generation says that their childhood was the best.
What do you think? What was your childhood like?Write, it's very interesting to find out.
Sincerely yours, Inna.
