The history of this dish is very interesting and full of various legends. One of the most famous legends is associated with Emperor Alexander I and his wife Elizaveta Alekseevna. According to this legend, during the Easter holiday, an Easter cake was brought to the emperor, which was decorated with gold and precious stones. Elizaveta Alekseevna ordered the Easter cake to be cut into small pieces and distributed to orphans and the needy. On this occasion, a song was composed, which became very popular among the people and led to the emergence of the tradition of giving Easter cakes during Easter.
However, the history of Easter cake actually dates back to ancient times, when Easter cake was associated with pagan rites. In Slavic mythology, Easter cake symbolized the sun and was a symbol of spring and the rebirth of life after hibernation. In a Christian context, Easter cake has become a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is associated with the adoption of the tradition of eating during the Easter holiday.
Over time, the tradition of making Easter cake has spread to many countries, including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Germany and many others. Each of these countries has its own characteristics and traditions of preparing Easter cake. For example, in Ukraine, Easter cake is made from a dough containing eggs, flour, sugar and dried fruits, and then decorated with icing and cookies. Kulich is a traditional holiday dessert in Ukraine, which is usually prepared for Easter. It is a sweet, puffy bread with raisins, candied fruit, orange peel and other ingredients, usually topped with icing and colored sprinkles.
EASTER CAKE is prepared for several days, starting with the preparation of the dough, then kneading it and a long exposure. After baking, the cake is usually cooled and the glaze is prepared, which is applied to the top of the bread. In addition, Easter cake can be decorated with eggs, caramel, fruits and other decorative elements.
In Ukraine, EASTER CAKE is traditionally served at Easter, when it decorates the festive table. Kulich is also often given to relatives and friends as a sign of good wishes and respect.
