Easter or the feast of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is a transitional holiday. That is, the date of its celebration is different every year. You can calculate it yourself. To do this, you need to find out the date of the first full moon after the day of the vernal equinox. Catholics and the Orthodox Church calculate these days according to different calendars, so they celebrate the Resurrection of Christ on different dates.

So, according to the Julian calendar, according to which the whole holy Orthodox Church celebrates, Easter 2023 falls on April 16th.

Catholics celebrate according to the Gregorian calendar, so their Easter 2023 will fall on April 9th.

In Ukraine, Easter is traditionally a big public holiday, so it always has an additional day off on Monday. If martial law is not extended, Ukrainians will rest on April 15, 16 and 17.
What are the traditions for Easter?
Orthodox Christians attach particular importance to the last week of Great Lent, preceding Easter. It is during this period that they begin to bake Easter cake and paint eggs. Also, believers observe the strictest fast. The most important days are Maundy Thursday (April 13, 2023) and Good Friday (April 14, 2023).

An Easter service is held on Saturday evening. After midnight in the churches, the Pascha of Matins begins - a solemn service. By sunrise, Easter cakes, Easter eggs and other products that believers carry in Easter baskets should be consecrated.

After the end of the service, the whole family gathers together at the festive table, family members eat consecrated foods. They start the meal with eggs. Then they visit relatives and friends to exchange Easter congratulations, called "christianity".

Also on this day, it is customary to give alms to bring prosperity to your home.

In addition to physical labor on Easter Day, there are several other prohibitions. In particular, you cannot:
