Such an event lasts for several days, during each of which attendees can watch a certain number of races (different for each type of competition and country), they last about two minutes. There are half-hour intervals between races, in which you can place bets on the next "exit" of horses. In addition, on large screens, the previous race is repeated - it is scrolled in the ground, analyzed and discussed.
Athletes enter the field 10 minutes before the start of the next race. Horses are led so that all spectators can see them, after which they are taken to the starting box. They have horses with riders waiting for a signal shot. For specialists who restrain horses - stewards, this is the most difficult moment. During such work, the stewards are dressed in an armored vest, helmet and other protective devices, which protect the person from the hooves and teeth of fiery horses. When a shot is fired, the doors of the boxes open sharply, and the horses fly rapidly, overcoming the distance. On average, this happens in 1-2 minutes.
In those countries that adhere to English traditions, jumping is held on racetracks with a turf surface. And in North and South America, earthen drawings are more popular. There are competitions on a flat surface or smooth with obstacles.
