Ivan Kupala is a national holiday of the Eastern Slavs, which is celebrated at the beginning of July and is dedicated to the highest flowering of nature. The night before the holiday is of special importance, many ancient traditions and customs are associated with it. Ivan Kupala is a very old holiday. It has two dates: the first according to the old style - June 20-22, and at that time the holiday was celebrated even by pagans. After the advent of Christianity, the holiday began to be celebrated on the night of July 6-7. In Ukraine, this holiday coincides with one of the great Orthodox holidays - the Christmas of John the Baptist.
You can't sleep on the night of July 6-7. According to ancient beliefs, all the evil spirits wake up on this night - witches, snakes, mermen, mermaids, werewolves.

During this period, you cannot give, sell, borrow anything - all these processes lead to poverty and losses.

You can't swim alone, because the evil force can drag even excellent swimmers under the water. Pregnant women, children and the elderly should stay as far away from water as possible.

You cannot pick up things or money found on the road. They can be spoken by an evil force.
