You're looking on the wrong hand, neighbor. Ukrainian ladies wear the rings of wedding, engagement, and even "promise" rings on their right hands. Why? They are largely members of the Orthodox version of Christianity and even those who are not religious adhere to the usual practices of it. In the western nations, we follow the Roman conventions, even if one is atheistic or follows a religion not Christianity. For example, in the Jewish faith one is expected to wear such rings on the forefinger, but normal convention is that pretty much everyone wears it on the third finger of the left hand.
Here's a suggestion, which MY lady and I are going to follow: Wear a wedding ring on both hands. Yes, I AM aware that in the west wearing a wedding ring on the right signifies widowhood or divorce. Just do one tiny little thing for your lady, okay? The rewards are worth it.
A question, however; why have you not asked the ladies with whom you communicate this question? Would you not think that would be an excellent ice breaking question to feel out if you have similar views on important subjects? In my case, I did my homework well before I even posted a profile on this site, so I was already aware of the "why do they wear rings on the wrong hand" (not that it IS the "wrong hand", by the way!) answer. Look deeper in the cultural and religious backgrounds of these ladies. It is worth the questions you will ask yourself--and eventually you will come to realize that perhaps it is YOU who wears a ring on the wrong hand...
(Hi, Elena. Still thinking about you even while I am writing an explanation, yes?)
