It would seem like an eternity is left. Perhaps - for the planet, as for a space object. But for life - no. Over the next billion years, the Sun's luminosity will increase by 10 percent. The Earth heated by it will become, like today's Venus - a hot ball, devoid of seas, rivers and life. That's what they thought a few days ago. But according to the forecast, the results of which scientists from the University of Bristol's School of Geographical Sciences published recently in the journal Nature, we do not have a billion years.
Modeling showed that people, and with them other mammals, will disappear within 250 million years. Everyone will burn together in a “fiery hyena,” figuratively speaking.
Where does this “rush” come from? It turns out that a 2.5 percent increase in the Sun's luminosity, expected in 250 million years, would be enough to make life unbearable. Average summer land temperatures will rise from the current 15 degrees Celsius to 46 degrees. Daytime temperatures are up to 70 degrees Celsius. For a sauna it’s not even enough, but for the environment it’s deadly. So we will all die out. We won't be able to adapt. Mammals can effectively adapt to cold—to ice ages—but not to heat.
