You may be surprised to hear that Turkey, where I currently live, is a predominantly Muslim country and Christmas is not celebrated as widely as in Western countries. However, over the past few years I have discovered that the spirit of Christmas is present here in the form of warmth and joy that brings families and friends together. 🤝❤️

One of the special aspects of Turkish Christmas is the importance of family connections. During this period of the year, people tend to spend more time with their loved ones. The mesmerizing streets are adorned with lights and decorations, and homes are filled with the scents of Christmas treats. But the most important thing is the moments we spend together, sharing joy and warmth. 🏡🌈

One of the most popular traditions in Turkey at this time of year among Christian families is decorating the Christmas tree together. This event brings together children, parents and grandparents, creating an atmosphere of unity and mutual understanding. We give each other gifts; their size is not as important as the care and attention put into them. 🎁👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Turkey also traditionally bakes Christmas baked goods such as kurt khalifa (dried fruits and nuts in honey), creating a festive aroma around it. These sweets are shared with neighbors and friends, a wonderful display of Turkish hospitality. 🍪🤗

Although the religious aspects of Christmas are not as pronounced here, the holiday in Turkey is an occasion for people of different faiths and nationalities to come together and celebrate the importance of family values. 🌐🤲

Christmas in Turkey certainly has its own unique character and I was lucky enough to experience this amazing mix of Turkish hospitality and Christmas magic. During this time of year, we learn to appreciate each other and the warmth that family brings, regardless of our cultural differences. 🤝❤️
