What can you see in Chichen Itza? The main and most famous building is the pyramid of Kukulkan, dedicated to the supreme god of the Maya, who was depicted as a feathered serpent. The pyramid has four sides, each of which has 91 steps, and at the top - a temple. If you add up all the steps, you get 365 - the number of days in a year according to the solar calendar of the Maya. The pyramid also served as an astronomical instrument: twice a year, on the days of the spring and autumn equinoxes, a shadow appears on the staircase of the pyramid in the form of a snake's body, which seems to descend down. This incredible spectacle attracts thousands of tourists and pilgrims who want to honor the ancient gods.
Another interesting place in Chichen Itza is the observatory, which is called Snail (snail) because of its shape. Here the Maya observed the stars and planets, determined the seasons, made calendars and prophecies. The Maya were very advanced in astronomy and mathematics, as evidenced by their writings and symbols.
It is impossible not to mention other buildings in Chichen Itza, such as the temple of warriors, the alley of a thousand columns, the stadium for playing ball, the temple of priestesses and many others. Each building has its own history and meaning, related to the religion and culture of the Maya. In addition, in the vicinity of Chichen Itza there are 13 cenotes - natural wells with clear water, which were used by the Maya for rituals and sacrifices. The most famous of them is the Sacred Cenote, where archaeologists found many objects and skeletons of people and animals.
Visiting Chichen Itza is like making a journey into the past, into the world of ancient civilizations that left us their secrets and mysteries. I am very glad that I had such an opportunity, and I hope that you will also be able to see it with your own eyes someday. Thank you for your attention, see you soon!
