Ballet or contemporary dance: choice or synthesis?
id: 10055382

Allow me to share my story with you. I've decided not to limit myself to choosing between ballet and contemporary dance. I've been practicing ballet since childhood and simultaneously dancing in a group of contemporary youth dancers.

I've always felt at home in both worlds of dance. My grandmother, a former ballerina, instilled in me a love for ballet. From the first step on the ballet studio floor, I felt it was my true calling. Ballet gave me grace, elegance, and discipline, while teaching me to control my body and express emotions.

However, when I first attended a contemporary dance rehearsal, I felt a freedom I had never experienced in ballet classes. Contemporary dance allowed me to feel the energy of rhythm, express my emotions freely, and try something new and unconventional.

While some may see a conflict between these two styles, for me, they complement each other. Ballet helps maintain technique, flexibility, and grace, while contemporary dance provides the opportunity to experiment, choose bold movements, and express oneself vividly.

It's important for me to feel myself in both styles of dance. I believe that limiting the choice between them would mean losing a part of myself. Dance is not just about movements; it's the language of the soul, and I feel incomplete if I can't freely choose what resonates with me the most.

So, what's better — ballet or contemporary dance? The answer depends on you and your own feelings. For some, ballet may epitomize classicism and grace, while for others, contemporary dance may signify freedom and expression. But why not combine both styles, as I do? After all, in dance, there are no limitations, only your imagination and will.
