Her Majesty Nature has created countless unique masterpieces, many of which are located in Ukraine. The Tunnel of Love is the name of a magical place in Rivne region, near the town of Klevan. Everyone who has had the chance to visit there cannot hide their genuine admiration. The tunnel can be considered a true botanical phenomenon – formed by intertwined branches and shoots of bushes, it arches directly over the railway track, enchanting and beckoning you into the distance.
Where did it come from?
The Tunnel of Love became extraordinarily popular only recently – just about a decade ago, few had heard of it. Today, it is the most romantic place in Ukraine, as newlyweds, lovers, and even friends come here to admire the beautiful scenery.
It was created almost by accident. Back in Soviet times, this part of the railway led to a military base. To maximally camouflage the movement of trains, it was decided to plant trees on both sides of the track. When the railway was no longer needed, the vegetation was no longer trimmed, and it gradually filled all the available space with a whimsical interweaving of branches and leaves.
However, a small train still runs there. Thanks to it, the tunnel has acquired its perfect shape. Moving along the track, the locomotive breaks the branches, forming a picturesque arch. The train itself fits so organically into the overall atmosphere that few tourists miss the opportunity to take a beautiful photo.
The Tunnel of Love is enchanting in any season. In summer, it resembles a fairy-tale green cave where elves might dwell. In autumn, it is a true riot of colors – golden, fiery yellow, red-brown, orange-green... In winter, the tunnel is also magnificent – the white attire of the trees gives it grandeur and mystery.
Interesting Facts and Legends:
Locals say that the souls of a once-loving couple wander here, a couple whose parents forbade them to marry. Heartbroken, the girl threw herself into the swamp near the railway, and her boyfriend searched for her for a long time but eventually disappeared without a trace. Now, their pure souls help other lovers, and therefore everyone who visits believes that:
Walks in this area during a wedding will contribute to a happy family life in the future.
If a couple makes a joint wish under the arch, it will definitely come true.
Visiting the tunnel is a romantic way to improve marital relations.
It is worth noting that in 2014, Japanese director Akiyoshi Imazaki shot a romantic film here titled "Klevan. The Tunnel of Love," after which the area became a true pilgrimage site for tourists from Japan. Additionally, many commercials are filmed in Klevan, including those by the Japanese company Fujifilm.
