Cooking disasters: my funniest kitchen failures

The Pie That Didn't Rise
Once I decided to bake my first apple pie. The recipe said that the dough should be airy and fluffy. I tried so hard! I kneaded the dough, cut the apples, added cinnamon and put it in the oven. The smell was amazing, and I dreamed about how proud I would be of my creation. But, as you may have guessed, when I took the pie out, it looked like someone had stepped on it. It didn't rise and looked like a flat cake with apples on top. In the end, my husband and I decided it was “cool” and called it “surprise pie”!
Tip: Always check if your baking powder and baking soda are fresh. And don’t rush to open the oven — it’s better to wait a little so as not to disrupt the rising process!
Salt instead of sugar
Oh, this one has become a classic! I decided to make cookies for tea for my friends. Everything was going great until I mixed up the salt and sugar. When I finally pulled the baking sheet out of the oven and bit into a cookie, I felt my taste buds get shocked. These were not cookies, but “salty disasters”! My friends were delighted — no one expected such a turn of events.
Tip: Keep salt and sugar in separate containers and it’s better to label them. And before adding anything to the dough, don’t be lazy — sometimes it can save the situation!
Pasta with an unexpected sauce
I recently decided to treat my family to an Italian dinner and made pasta with tomato sauce. Everything was going according to plan until I discovered that there were no tomatoes in the fridge. In a panic, I grabbed a jar of canned mushrooms and decided to make a “mushroom” sauce. The result was pasta with a very strange taste that no one could describe. We decided that it was a “mushroom experiment” and, fortunately, we ate everything because we were hungrier!
Tip: Check your fridge supplies in advance. And don’t be afraid to experiment, but it’s better to think about how the combination of products will taste in advance.
