HISTORY OF THANKSGIVING DAY
The holiday dates back to 1621, when the first settlers, the Pilgrims, celebrated the first harvest with Native Americans in Plymouth, Massachusetts. They shared food and gave thanks for surviving in difficult conditions.
Thanksgiving officially became a national holiday in 1863, when President Abraham Lincoln declared it a day of prayer and thanksgiving, even amid the Civil War.
