This year we will have a small family dinner at home. The menu, of course, will be adapted: we'll replace turkey with chicken (not such a big compromise, right? 😉 ), and instead of the traditional pumpkin pie, I'll bake our favorite apple strudel.
Preparations for the party started in advance. The kids and I created a “Gratitude Tree” - a sheet of absorbent cotton on which we each wrote what we were thankful for this year. It was a touching moment: someone remembered about friends, someone - about family, and someone - about the dog Mia, who always lifts the mood.
I think holidays like this are a great way to remind ourselves and our children of the importance of appreciating what we have, no matter what the circumstances. Plus, it's also a way to expose them to other countries' cultures, because who knows, maybe one day we'll celebrate this day across the ocean. 🌍
I try to explain to the kids that gratitude is not only words, but also actions. So we decided that on this day we will do something kind for others: we will collect a small bag of groceries for an elderly neighbor who lives alone.
Thanksgiving is not just an occasion to eat good food, but an opportunity to get closer to each other, to family, and to the world around us. I believe that the traditions we create today will one day become warm memories for my children.
