Mazepa and Motrya: passion against fate
Let's start with the legendary love of Hetman Ivan Mazepa and Motrya Kochubey. He is a grown man, an experienced politician, a master of intrigue and a great reformer. She is the young daughter of his associate, full of romance and dreams. The feeling between them flared up, which could not be stopped neither by social customs, nor by the prohibitions of the family.
They say that Motrya wrote him touching letters full of sincerity and longing. Mazepa, answering, promised her eternal love and supported her dreams of living together. However, Motri's father, Vasily Kochubey, was against their union. This feeling turned out not only a personal tragedy, but also a political drama. Kochubey denounced Mazepa to Peter I, accusing him of treason, and this slander became one of the reasons for the sad fate of the hetman.
Motrya, unable to find happiness with her beloved, went into a monastery. Their love remained in history as a symbol of strength, which can resist everything but the harsh fate.
Mazepa and Motri's love became a symbol of the struggle between personal happiness and the demands of society. Their story is a reminder of how difficult it was to stay true to one's feelings in a world ruled by strict rules and political intrigue.
Mazepa remained in history as a great hetman and a man who sacrificed much for his dream of a free Ukraine. And Motrya became the image of a woman whose love and suffering reflected not only her personal drama, but also the fate of the entire generation of Ukrainians.
