Time-tested traditions
Family heirlooms. Who else gets out toys that have survived at least three generations and look like Santa Claus himself has looked at them? They may not always match in style, but their place is on the most visible branch. They keep the warmth and spirit of family holidays.
Tinsel: lots and everywhere. If the tree doesn't resemble a fluffy shiny hedgehog, then it's not a holiday! Yes, fashion changes, but who can resist the sparkling chaos that makes your eyes run wild? No one.
Traditional star on top. This star is the main character of the whole show. If it hasn’t tilted or fallen three times during the decoration process, then you are clearly doing something wrong.
Trends of 20245
Minimalism. Forget about mountains of tinsel and tons of toys. This year, the trend is conciseness. A tree with a couple of toys and a neat garland is not laziness, but fashion. The main thing is not to overdo it with minimalism, so that the tree does not look like a “naked branchy skeleton”.
Eco-decorations. Pine cones, dried oranges, cinnamon sticks - and the tree immediately becomes cozy and smells of magic. But do not overdo it with cinnamon, so that your home is not confused with a Christmas bakery.
Toys in the same color scheme. White and gold, red and green or silver and blue — choose your palette and stick to it. It looks stylish, but you must admit, a bit boring if you are used to the tradition of “hanging up everything you can find”.
Garlands with the “northern lights” effect. LED lights with iridescent colors will create a real fairy tale. The main thing is not to look at them for too long, otherwise you risk getting stuck in a Christmas trance.
How to combine traditions and trends?
Let your tree be unique! Take eco-pine cones, add a couple of old toys from childhood, decorate it all with a minimalist garland — and here you have a tree that is both trendy and has a soul. And yes, do not forget to hang a potato-shaped toy — you can’t do without it.
The final touch.
Do not forget that decorating a Christmas tree is not only a result, but also a process. Sing, drink cocoa, laugh at how someone put the star crooked again. After all, the most important thing is joy and laughter, not the perfect look of your tree.
With love, Maria, professional Christmas tree decorator and lover of toy potatoes.
