New Year is a time for culinary experiments and cozy home traditions. One of the most favorite dishes on our holiday table is dumplings. This year I decided to add a little sophistication to the traditional recipe and made dumplings with salmon. This dish is ideal for a holiday dinner: it combines ease of preparation, delicate taste and elegant appearance.
Ingredients for the dough:
500 g flour;
1 egg;
200 ml water;
a pinch of salt.
Ingredients for the filling:
400 g fresh salmon (boneless fillet);
100 g cream cheese (for example, cream cheese);
1 small bunch of dill;
a pinch of salt and ground pepper.
Cooking process:
Knead the dough.
In a bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the egg and gradually pour in the water, kneading the dough. It should be soft and elastic, but not stick to your hands. Put it in cling film and leave it to “rest” for 30 minutes.
Prepare the filling.
Cut the salmon into small cubes. Mix the fish with cream cheese, add finely chopped dill, salt and pepper to taste. Mix until smooth.
Roll out the dough and make dumplings.
Divide the dough into several parts and roll each into a thin layer. Use a glass to cut out circles. Put a little filling in the center of each circle and carefully seal the edges, giving the dumpling the shape of a crescent or a traditional “knot”.
Cook the dumplings.
Pour water into a large saucepan, add a little salt and bring to a boil. Place the dumplings in boiling water and cook for 3-5 minutes after they float to the surface.
Serve with love.
Salmon dumplings are best served with a delicate cream sauce, sour cream, or simply with melted butter. You can use fresh herbs or lemon slices for decoration.
My secret tips:
If you want to add a festive touch, try adding a little turmeric to the dough for a golden color
You can add grated cheese or a drop of lemon juice to the filling for a brighter taste.
