DON'T DO THIS. SERIOUSLY.
Why? Let me explain.
You can send the wrong signal.
Imagine: you decide to be a polite person and slip your boss a card with hearts. He unfolds it, and there it is - "You are the best!" or (even worse) "I always dreamed of someone like you" ...
At this moment, a tense silence hangs in the office. Colleagues stop typing. The secretary drops her tea. A question flashes in the eyes of the boss: "Is this an office romance?!"
Conclusion: if you don't want to be suddenly invited "for a chat" in a separate office - keep your valentines to yourself!
The team may not understand it this way
Let's say you're not the only one who's so brave. Your colleagues also brought valentines, but yours were special. For example, with candy or a poem of your own composition:
"Happy Valentine's Day,
A bonus wouldn't hurt,
You're a great boss,
Well, and I'm an employee - yes!"
It seems harmless? But in a minute the office is divided into two camps:
"Suck-up!" - some whisper.
"What if it works?!" - others thoughtfully drawl.
Conclusion: if you don't want to find yourself in the center of corporate intrigue - it's better to leave your congratulations for family, friends, or at least your cat.
It can end VERY unexpectedly.
Now imagine the opposite situation: the boss unexpectedly responds to your congratulations! For example, he says:
"Thank you, , I've been wanting to talk to you for a long time too..."
There are two possible scenarios here:
You get promoted - congratulations, it's a miracle, and now everyone hates you.
You just signed up for a corporate date - now you have to find a way to get out of it.
Conclusion: sometimes it's better to just pretend that February 14 is a regular work day.
Alternative: if you want to show attention, you can give a general gift from the team - for example, a box of heart-shaped cookies. Just so that no one feels left out. And if you want to compliment your boss - it's better to say "You're a great boss!" without any hints of feelings.
Have you ever congratulated your boss on Valentine's Day? With love and humor, Nadya .
