Self-esteem and what it depends on
id: 10047597

Self-esteem is not just an internal feeling. It is the result of all our interactions, experiences, and feedback we receive from others. The more positive responses we hear, the higher our self-esteem. But if that support is insufficient, all our confidence can collapse like a house of cards.

The level of self-esteem depends on three things:

How much the opinion of the person saying it matters to us.
How often we hear such remarks.
How often we encounter opposing opinions and feedback.
If you have confirmation of your beauty and value from many people, a couple of negative remarks will pass by unnoticed. But if that confirmation is absent, even one sharp word can pierce your armor. This applies not only to appearance but also to your professionalism, mental abilities, talent, or skills.

However, no matter how hard we try, it's unrealistic to be confident in every area of life. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. But it's important to remember that these weaknesses are often supported by numerous destructive comments we've received since childhood. Don't be surprised if someone whose abilities or choices have been constantly criticized finds it much harder to develop self-confidence. And many of us spend our entire lives trying to get rid of the inferiority complex that grows from these words and views.
